Mottama Holdings’ U Yang Ho to receive Myanmar Real Estate Personality 2018 award

One of Myanmar’s most respected entrepreneurs will be celebrated at the annual gala dinner of the PropertyGuru Myanmar Property Awards.

U Yang Ho, chairman of Mottama Holdings, has been chosen to receive the 2018 Myanmar Real Estate Personality of the Year award, which is presented by the editorial team of PropertyGuru Property Report magazine. It is the only award not selected by the independent panel of judges.

He has been named for leading to enrich the urban landscape of Yangon with services and attractions in a first-class, mixed-use development, and for elevating the standards of construction practices in the country.

“The Real Estate Personality of the Year award means a great deal of honour to me and my company. It means a recognition of our hard work and a public approval of our values. It is a great privilege to receive this award, and it is a motivation for us to keep innovating, improving, and challenging ourselves,” said U Yang Ho.

“I dedicate this recognition to my team from Mottama who have worked tirelessly and relentlessly, to all engineers who have helped us, to all designers and architect consultants, to all my construction materials suppliers, to all my brilliant partners, and to all construction workers who have ensured quality delivery of these projects.”

Born to a Chinese-Myanmar family in the Gunlung Village, Northeastern Myanmar, U Yang Ho has had very humble beginnings, with limited access to urban amenities that he hopes the current and future generations will enjoy through his projects.

His motivation to succeed in this industry was his vast experience and wisdom earned over the last four decades of working in and outside of the country.

Known by his mentors and peers for his persistent skills and diligence, U Yang Ho as a young adult in the early 1990s became a top sales executive across various industries in Taiwan and Thailand, learning as much as he could about running a successful business.

He returned to Myanmar in the late 1990s to join a family business in steel product trading and office furniture production, capitalising on a developing industry and the country’s economic liberalisation.

Today, Mottama Holdings is an esteemed conglomerate comprising three main business groups: Mottama Trading Group, Min Dhama Construction, and Mottama Development Group Co., Ltd.

With the support of his wife, Daw Khin Khin Htet – his most trusted business partner and aide – his firm would eventually overcome hurdles, including the 2008 Global Financial Crisis. But it was not an easy journey due to the volatility of the market.

“The public almost lost confidence in our real estate industry,” he recalled. “There were many projects by various developers that were stopped or delayed, and as a result, many customers felt betrayed by an entire industry where I belonged.”

He never gave up, working hard to regain the public’s trust during those trying times. He advocated transparency and delivering to customers and business partners what have been promised them through ethical means.

“My core values are ‘goodness, diligence, trust, and innovation’. It doesn’t matter if you’re dealing with customers, partners, or suppliers – the people’s trust in you is the key factor to propel your career, and you can only advance when you’ve earned their trust.”

The prestigious Myanmar Real Estate Personality of the Year award will be presented by PropertyGuru’s director of agent and developer products Jason Gregory at the black-tie gala dinner and ceremony on 10 August 2018. The exclusive event is expected to welcome more than 370 guests.
