Shwe Taung Group CEO to be crowned 2017 Myanmar Real Estate Personality

The third annual PropertyGuru Myanmar Property Awards will present the 2017 Myanmar Real Estate Personality of the Year to Mr Aung Zaw Naing, who started his preeminent career in property development at Shwe Taung Group.

Before assuming the role of Group CEO, Aung Zaw Naing held various key positions within the company in the fields of construction, finance, marketing and strategy. He learned the ropes from his father Aik Htun, founder of Shwe Taung Development Co., Ltd – winner of the coveted Best Developer (Myanmar) 2016 award.

“Our 2017 Myanmar Real Estate Personality of the Year winner has been instrumental in the advancement of the country’s real estate sector and improvement of Yangon’s urban landscape. Under his guidance, Shwe Taung has delivered on their mission to build international standard developments that inspire local communities,” noted Liam Aran Barnes, head of publishing at PropertyGuru Property Report.

Under Aung Zaw Naing, the firm produced the multi-Myanmar Property Award–winning Junction City integrated development, in addition to undertaking various commercial and infrastructure projects.

“His vision and leadership paved the way for Shwe Taung to be recognised as the country’s Best Developer in 2016,” added Barnes.

The Myanmar Real Estate Personality of the Year is the only award not chosen by the independent panel of judges. After much consideration, the recipient is selected by the Property Report editorial team. It aims to recognise an individual for displays of innovation and ambition, and their contributions to and achievements in the real estate industry.

Aung Zaw Naing is known to be the driving force behind Shwe Taung’s performance in the core sectors of real estate, infrastructure, construction, building materials, and distribution, as well as the Group’s entry into new business areas of insurance, finance, and food and beverage.

“This award is dedicated to my Shwe Taung team. It is recognition of the impact Shwe Taung has on the real estate sector in Myanmar. It is also a validation of our efforts to be not only the best Myanmar real estate company but also one that positively impacts our community,” said Aung Zaw Naing, who considers the recent opening of Junction City (Phase 1) as one of his key achievements in the past year.

“Junction City has been developed using environmentally-friendly technologies that meet the Green Mark standards set by the Building and Construction Authority of Singapore. With the evolving real estate sector in Myanmar, we hope to be able to set a good example in sustainable development and inspire others to do the same.”

The ambitious real estate executive, who also juggles being chairman of Myanmar Martial Arts Federation under the Ministry of Sport, believes in the potential of the domestic property market. He promotes Shwe Taung to lead the way in quality affordable housing development and hopes that the recent availability of mortgage financing in the country can provide a boost for home ownership for locals.

“The industrial segment would also grow as Myanmar attracts more foreign direct investment. Even sectors such as healthcare and education require real estate to support them,” he said. “The key to success in Myanmar’s real estate sector is to adopt a long-term view.”

Aung Zaw Naing will receive his special award at the third annual PropertyGuru Myanmar Property Awards 2018 gala dinner on Friday, 30 June at the Sedona Yangon Hotel.

The event expects to welcome more than 250 guests and VIPs, including guest of honour U Aung Naing Oo, Director General, Directorate of Investment and Company Administration (DICA), and Secretary of the Myanmar Investment Commission, who is set to deliver the opening keynote address.
